Our Focus

1| Strengthening DSHEA

One of UNPA’s key goals is to keep our members and industry leaders informed on the most recent happenings around further strengthening DSHEA.

UNPA embarked on a strategy to rewrite the rules governing dietary supplements. This plan was developed in close cooperation with the office of Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah and was realized by the introduction of the Health Freedom Act of 1992, sponsored by Sen. Hatch and Rep. Bill Richardson of New Mexico. This bill ultimately became the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA). DSHEA was a shining example of consumers, trade associations and industry companies coming together to protect consumers’ rights of access to supplements.

2| Amazon and E-commerce

E-commerce, particularly on Amazon, has dramatically increased in market share since Covid-19.

Our Amazon Committee meets regularly to discuss and exchange critical information to understand the ever-changing policies on Amazon. With fast growth comes uneven compliance, which is a key focus of this committee to continuously improve the quality and integrity of dietary supplements sold via E-commerce.

3| Global Supply Chain Stability

Global Supply Chain Stability is critical to any business. Particularly if you are in the natural products business. We are actively working with industry experts to keep our members informed and to help avoid shortages and rising costs.
