REGULATORY FDA to tackle list of pre-DSHEA ingredients at October public meeting Natural Products INSIDER FDA is moving forward with a plan to develop an authoritative list of old dietary ingredients (on the market prior to Oct. 15, 1994) not subject to a safety-related notification requirement in DSHEA. The agency is planning to hold an all-day public meeting on Oct. 3 that it believes will be critical to the development of an authoritative list. UNPA encourages industry participation, and while industry is generally favorable about the pre-DSHEA list, stakeholders have expressed many opinions on its development. In a letter to Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, a group of House Democrats urged USDA to finalize the federal standards for GMO labeling—and to make them strong and inclusive. Meanwhile, trade groups, including the Food Marketing Institute and the Grocery Manufacturers Association, are warning the Office of Management and Budget that failing to implement federal GMO labeling legislation in a timely manner could cause major headaches for industry.
