As you may have already heard, today (August 1, 2019) President Trump announced a further imposition of a 10% tariff on the remaining $300 billion of Chinese goods. These new tariffs take effect September 1. See article in the Washington Post here. Since this now includes EVERYTHING from China, it is not necessary to send you a tariff list, because if it's from China, it will now be subject to a 10% tariff. Clearly this will affect our raw material sector. We are in communication with our colleagues at the U.S. Embassy and Commercial Service in Beijing and will share any updates we receive from them. In the meantime, we will also be in close contact with others in the industry to evaluate the ripple effects this will have throughout the supply chain and to our end-user consumers. As we have noted before, as goods become more expensive, the risks of spiking and adulteration also rise. We will be on the lookout for suspicious goods that are unrealistically inexpensive. If you become aware of hot spots involving adulteration or spiking, we invite you to inform us at UNPA, and we will, if necessary, advance those concerns through the appropriate channels. Cordially, LDI Comments are closed.
