Dear Colleagues, While we have yet to see any coverage of this news in the United States, the acquisition of U.K.-based exhibitions company UBM by U.K.-based Informa, which owns Penton/New Hope Network and the former Virgo Communications, was completed on June 18. The combined company is called the Informa Group and produces both Natural Products Expos, the two SupplySide shows, a number of other industry events and trade and consumer publications. According to an article posted on exhibitionworld.co.uk, the new entity employs more than 11,000 people and owns and operates a portfolio of more than 500 leading exhibitions brands. Informa Group now has interests in “15 core industry verticals including Health & Nutrition, Life Sciences & Pharma, and Real Estate & Construction.
“In addition, it will own a complementary portfolio of convention/conference brands, a range of specialist information and intelligence brands and strong capabilities in B2B consulting and marketing service. Through combination and increased size, it will serve businesses in growth markets including the U.S. and China, India, Brazil, the Middle East, Europe and the U.K.” The article provides an overview of the deal and includes an interview with Charlie McCurdy, Informa Exhibitions’ CEO. What the acquisition means for the recently combined New Hope/Informa and the natural products community in the United States and other important countries of interest to the dietary supplement industry, including China, where UBM has a significant presence, is unknown. We will, of course, keep you apprised of any news as we hear it.
