On Dec. 6, the Food and Drug Administration took action against a company selling products containing selective androgen receptor modulators (SARMs), Sacramento, Calif.-based Enhanced Athlete, which is affiliated with Charles Anthony Hughes, aka “Dr. Tony Huge.” FDA seized raw materials and finished and unfinished products.
The action follows an Oct. 31 warning to consumers from FDA that included news that the agency had issued warning letters to three companies regarding their distribution of products containing SARMs.
You will recall that the five trade associations serving the natural products industry, including UNPA—along with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency—released a joint press release on Nov. 8 in support of strict enforcement action against SARMs by FDA and reminding consumers that these products are not dietary supplements, but unapproved drugs. The release also reminded consumers to educate themselves on the dangers SARMs-tainted products.
