Dear Colleagues -- FDA has just published a notice of a public meeting to discuss responsible innovation in dietary supplements (DSHEA 2.0). Details are as follows: Date/Time:
Thursday, May 16, 2019 (8:30 AM‐4:00 PM) Location: FDA's Center for Food Safety & Applied Nutrition Wiley Auditorium 5001 Campus Dr., College Park, MD 20740 Details, including how to register for the meeting or to request an opportunity to speak, will be made available in April. On behalf of UNPA, Larisa Pavlick and I will attend this public meeting, as will Peter and Trish. We will request a speaking slot, which we believe will be granted. This is the public meeting referred to by Commissioner Gottlieb in his February 11 public statement, which we include here for your convenience. Please note the language used: "responsible innovation in dietary supplements" is FDA's initiative to amend DSHEA. We expect there will be various terms used to describe this initiative. We will continue to refer to this as "DSHEA 2.0." Later today you will receive a notice announcing the formation of a UNPA DSHEA 2.0 working group where we will invite interested parties to participate in development of UNPA public views with respect to the status of DSHEA, FDA's initiative to seek amendments, and to develop a comprehensive internal discussion to lay out these issues, debate the pros and cons, and develop strategies to coordinate our views with those of our peer associations and other interested stakeholders. We urge your participation if you are interested in U.S. FDA regulatory affairs. Stand by for sign-up details. Cordially, LDI Comments are closed.
