We have talked about the level of interest and engagement among members of Congress when it comes to CBD. Most of this has been generated by interest in supporting local hemp farmers and CBD-processing facilities as a means of spurring economic development in their states and districts. Another motivator is concern about the safety of available CBD products.
Yesterday, another senior group of U.S. senators sent the attached letter to FDA leadership, urging the agency to take action both to protect consumers and to provide regulatory certainty for industry. Also see the related media coverage. It is noteworthy that the signatories include Sen. Chuck Schumer, Senate Democratic Leader, and Sen. Patrick Leahy, Ranking Democrat on Senate Appropriations Committee. Both are in key positions. Their message has significant overlaps with UNPA's position and the letter sent earlier this week to Congress by UNPA, CRN, AHPA and CHPA.
UNPA is continuing meetings on the Hill and with other key stakeholders in an effort to win positive legislative and regulatory action on CBD.
