SNAP Vitamin and Mineral Improvement Act introduced in U.S. House; support letters requested10/2/2017
Dear Colleagues, Last Thursday, Sept. 28, HR 3841, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Vitamin and Mineral Improvement Act of 2017,” was introduced by Reps. Mike Rogers, R-Ala., Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., Mia Love, R-Utah, and Tony Cárdenas, D-Calif. The goal is to build support for adding the bill to the 2018 Farm Bill by getting more cosponsors for H.R. 3841. According to the USDA website, SNAP offers nutrition assistance to millions of eligible, low-income individuals and families and provides economic benefits to communities. SNAP is the largest program in the domestic hunger safety net. Senior Political Advisors Peter Reinecke and Patricia Knight note that the bill is straightforward and make a basic multivitamin eligible to be purchased with SNAP benefits. The text of the bill is attached. As you recall, UNPA and the other major trade associations sent a letter of support prior to introduction. We have included that letter here. We strongly urge all of our members and their staffs to contact their congressional representatives to support this important, common sense legislation. With warm regards, Frank----- Frank J.
