Dear Colleagues -- This afternoon, Rep Jason Chaffetz shocked many in our community by announcing an end-of-June departure date from Congress - much earlier than some had expected. Rep. Chaffetz's retirement will be a big loss to our industry- not only because of his amply demonstrated interest in our issues, but also because he has been in a position to promote our concerns through his Chairmanship of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and his cochairmanship of the Congressional Dietary Supplement Caucus.
We understand he plans to be a commentator for Fox News and may also seek additional positions in business. While the process to replace Mr. Chaffetz is not clear at this point- we believe the Governor will establish a process mirroring the normal State convention system. In July and until a successor is elected, the House clerk will assume responsibility for running Utah's 3rd district congressional office so that constituent inquiries can be handled by what Chaffetz staff remain. We join with all Utahns in thanking Rep. Chaffetz for his superior service and his capable representation of his constituents, many of whom work in our industry.
